![]() Back in 2006, my fellow collaborator Jay and myself ventured to Thailand for fun, adventure and just to get away from the hectic Western life. Since we returned, I've been looking for videos on youtube that depict certain experiences such as 'Tuk-Tuk' riding that I can share with the people who read my blog. For those that don't know. Youtube has been banned in Thailand. Maybe its due to the former Prime Minister using youtube to voice his opinions to the Thai people or maybe its because of the racist and insensitive videos targeted at the Thai king. I typed in 'Thai' and found these shocking and racist videos that label the Thai King as 'Thai King of the Apes'. These videos call out Thai Royalty and governing policies over their standards in sentencing a tourist [who apparently had defaced pictures of Thai royalty with spray paint and was sentenced to 10 years, he was released afterwards if you can find the news articles]. If you want you can see the video here. The video goes on and on with doctored photos of the Thai king looking like an ape, and then concludes with imbedded pictures of feet on the Thai kings face. In Thailand it is considered very disrespectful to point your feet at someone since feet are considered dirty, and to place them on ones face is even worse as the head is sacred. To top it all off, to the Thai people the King is beloved and renown. So, a video like this doesn't really sit well with a majority of them. I know American's love to say 'Freedom of Speech' but in this case it isn't. Its a blatantly racist and ignorant video posting that goes against youtubes self imposed rules. Do your own research and truly learn what 'freedom of speech' is about, I did, and know that these immature postings do not fall under its jurisdiction. Now before I end this post I'd like to say, I've done a bit of research on the Thai king and heard various points about him; and like or dislike him, those videos aren't the proper way to make your displeasure known. There is no discussion involved just hate and ignorance. Youtube, get your act together and take those racist videos down. I mean if you let China censor you, then why not let Thailand have these racist videos taken down? It isn't cool if someone defaced North Korea's long dead president, or maybe images of Mohammed, or having Jesus made out to be an ape? Maybe if these videos defaced images of black leaders youtube would take it down. Hell it isn't right. Hate is hate, and youtube should do the right thing and take these videos and other ones like them down. edit: a better explanation than mine can be heard here |
