ABOUT FRIES'n'GRAVY

WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!!...
it's chunky, crispy, smooth and fat. it's an indulgence but more importantly, fries'n'gravy is nourishing.

stay for a while. sit down, relax and kick off your shoes, while chefs colin and jay collaborate to prepare your classic canadian highschool favourite with only the finest of international ingredients. take a pound plus of crispy fries done proper, some beef gravy, a touch of salt, toss in a dash of freshly ground pepper, and the secret ingredient - TLC. but that's not all, there's more to this batch of fries'n'gravy than just fries and...well...gravy; throw in 1/2 a cup of cynicism and 3 cups of reduced criticism. sprinkle with brutal honesty and you have yourself a batch french fried goodness served up daily.

the inspiration of "long way round"
can you imagine travelling with one of your closest buddies? imagine going on the road in a foreign place where you'll have no clue what the hell to expect? imagine entrusting your life to not only your buddy, but also to a couple guidebooks, a map or two, some pocket change and some cameras. co-owner and close bud'o'mine colin and myself did. proudly, i can say that we lived out of our backpacks for 5 weeks - train'n, plane'n, tuk-tuk'n and boat'n our asses between burma, thailand and laos.

for one of the first fries'n'gravy posts, i thought it would be fitting to big up ewan mcgregor and close pal, charley boorman's "long way round". the one-season-long show is currently being featured on canadian boxes through OLN. "long way round" documents the trials and tribulations that the pair face while planning for and travelling a tour across the 'long' way around the globe - russia (eurasia).

think about it. ewan and travel the giant land masss on two bmw bikes not knowing what to expect. along the way, they meet strangers who are strange and strangers who become close friends. you also have to keep in mind that they're going to be in foreign territory speaking little or no foreign tongue. they'll be immersed in different customs and environments. that, my friends is living an enriched life.

peep "long way round" the next time you find yourself watching life pass you by. at least you'll be able to live vicariously through these two trailblazers while ass-stamping your couch's cushion.
